Um diese Funktionen nutzen zu können, muss PHP mit der Option --with-zip kompiliert werden.
Vor PHP 7.4.0 war libzip Teil von PHP, und um die Erweiterung zu kompilieren, musste man die Konfigurationsoption --enable-zip verwenden. Von PHP 7.3.0 an wurde davon abgeraten, mit der mitgelieferten libzip zu kompilieren, aber es war immer noch möglich, indem die Konfigurationsoption --without-libzip verwendet wurde.
Die Konfigurationsoption --with-libzip=DIR wurde hinzugefügt, um eine System-Installation von libzip zu verwenden. Benötigt wird libzip 0.11, aber 0.11.2 oder höher werden empfohlen.
Von PHP 8.2.0 an muss die DLL php_zip.dll in der php.ini aktiviert werden. Vorher war diese Erweiterung eingebaut.
